How to measure your Ideal Pet

To determine the correct size door, simply measure the width (A) and height (B) of your pet.

(A) Measure the widest point of your pet's shoulder.

(B) Measure from the top of your pet's back (just behind their head) to the bottom of chest.

Pet door models have different size openings. Just make sure your new pet door's opening is both wider and taller than your pet's measurements to ensure they can comfortably pass through.

    A terribly overpriced replacement part..

Posted by Hal on 21st Feb 2022

I love the overall dog door made by Ideal. But there are two flaps and they get beaten up daily, so when it comes time to replace, it's $122 shipped for two pieces of plastic w/ a riveted strip. $122. Consider this reality before you purchase the dog door because you will have to eventually pay for this.

    Pet (cat) door replacement parts

Posted by Kelly on 31st Oct 2021

I bought everything I’d need to rebuild the pet door I had installed years ago. The old parts were weathered and stained which is why I was rebuilding it. Everything fit perfectly and was very easy to install, and now the little door for my furkids looks brand new again. I’m so glad they make replacement parts.

    The good one is gone!

I needed replacement flaps for the more wind-resistant version that uses magnets to hold the flaps in place. DISCONTINUED: Now I have to remove the metal clips from the old flaps then drill the new flaps and rivet the clips in place. What a headache. At least it's not winter so I have some time to do this. Product and customer service equally poor

Posted by Unknown on 26th Apr 2021

Purchased these replacement flaps for my dog door (my flaps were about 4 years old). They arrived in a timely manner. Upon install they seemed fine, they were installed the same way the old ones came off - with the white plastic clip and 4 screws. Within a month the doors are warped and damaged, so not fit or seal to the opening, and leak air. They’re so poorly fitting that when it rains and there is a breeze, rain comes into my home thru the door. I reached out to customer service and they advised me that I needed an additional part, a fur strip or something, which was not indicated upon on the website or upon purchase of the replacement flaps and was not included in the original door. Not sure why the original flaps lasted over 4 years with identical installation and these lasted less than a month and leak more than the original did after 4 years. Even after 4 years the original flaps leaked air but at least kept the rain out.

    Not durable

Posted by Nancy P Carpenter on 12th Nov 2020

The thick vinyl flap is nice - clear and flexible - but it needs to be reinforced at the holes at the top where it attaches to the frame of the dog door. I have 3 big dogs who go in and out several times each day, and within a year, the holes have torn through at the top. A couple torn holes means the entire flap must be replaced. Either some kind of reinforcing needs to be done, or perhaps redesign the flap to have a replaceable bar at the top to attach to the door frame. With shipping, these flaps are about $45 and I would really expect them to last more than 10-11 months.
